Only about 28% of the inhabitants in Tembien, Ethiopia in Africa have access to clean drinking water, the rest of the population of about 71,000 people must get their water from polluted streams, rivers, and muddy ponds where the water is contaminated with deadly bacteria and other dangerous components. Hands Across the Planet to Poor Youth, Inc. (H.A.P.P.Y.) Founder and CEO Mr. Michael T. Belay, and Principal Engineer Mr. Michael E. Slaby, seek funding in order to install one shallow and one deep groundwater recovery wells to provide safe drinking water for over 1,000 inhabitants; an area that has very little safe drinking water resources. The projected budget of $140,000 is to accomplish this much needed resource. Upon completion, H.A.P.P.Y. will continue its water purification efforts in other regions throughout Ethiopia and, ultimately, throughout the world.

The second most common cause of death in Tembien is waterborne disease; human contraction of biological contaminants causing uncontrolled diarrhea, and other disorders associated with water borne contaminants, much of which is preventable through proper treatment, disinfection, and control of drinking water resources. This effects over 70,000 people from Abi Adi.
